Trico Electric Cooperative (TEC)

Trico Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Trico), headquartered in Marana, Arizona is a not-for-profit electric cooperative serving more than 38,000 customers in northwest Tucson, Marana, Corona de Tucson, Sahuarita, Green Valley, Three Points and Arivaca. Formed in 1945, Trico is a Touchstone Energy® Cooperative and is dedicated to accountability, innovation, integrity and commitment to the communities it serves.

Trico offers a variety of incentives that are designed to help our members take advantage of the renewable energy resources available in our state. Doing so will help decrease air pollution, reduce energy costs for participating members and help build a more sustainable future for all Arizonans.

To help members with the cost of adding renewable energy systems to their homes or businesses, Trico offers solar and renewable energy incentive programs under the name “SunWatts” which are designed to encourage Trico members to install a wide variety of renewable energy technologies such as photovoltaic systems, solar water heaters, as well as other technologies such as wind, solar daylighting, biogas/biomass, geothermal and solar space cooling.

For additional information on Trico’s renewable energy programs, call us at (520) 744-2944 or visit us at www.trico.coop.

Up-Front Incentive Program Information

Trico offers a variety of Up-Front Incentives (UFI) to members for the purchase and installation of several renewable energy solutions.

UFIs are subject to funding availability. All completed and approved rebate enrollment forms are placed on a reservation waiting list in the order in which they are received. The member will be notified of their system reservation status and estimate time of fund disbursement contingent on the system’s successful installation and inspection within 6 months of the reservation date.

Solar Panels/Photovoltaic Systems

There’s plenty of sunlight in Arizona and with Trico rebates and available federal and state tax credits, powering your home with the sun is very affordable. Once installed, solar panels turn sunlight into non-polluting energy. Your home will remain connected to the Trico grid, so you’ll always have energy anytime you need it. When your system produces more power than you need, the electricity is fed back into the Trico grid and you can be credited for that power.

Terms & Conditions:

The Arizona Corporation Commission, in Decision No. 72639, dated October 18, 2011, approved a Trico SunWatts program reduced up-front incentive for PV systems up to 10 kW. All rebate applications received after the close of business on September 16, 2011, for PV systems up to 10 kW, are subject to a reduced incentive of $0.75 per installed watt, up to 30% of the total system cost.

To qualify for a Trico UFI, the equipment must be installed and inspected within 6 months of the member’s reservation date.

Trico Renewable Energy Rebates are subject to change and funding availability. Visit www.trico.coop for information on available rebates.

Residential Wind Systems

Wind power has been utilized for centuries to pump water and grind grain in agricultural settings. Today more than 75,000 Megawatts of wind generation exist worldwide. The wind rotates blades that turns a turbine and makes electric current. Now homeowners can use this centuries old technology to produce electricity for their homes. Efficient cost effective wind generators are now available that can produce electricity all while protecting Arizona’s precious natural resources. Wind generators are well suited for members that have a large lot and live in an area where wind is prevalent.

Terms & Conditions:

All rebate applications received after January 1, 2011 for Wind systems up to 10 kW in size will receive an incentive of $1.50 per installed Watt up to 30% of the total cost of the system.

To qualify for a Trico UFI, the equipment must be installed and inspected within 6 months of the member’s reservation date.

Trico Renewable Energy Rebates are subject to change and funding availability. Visit www.trico.coop for information on available rebates.

Solar Water Heaters (SWH)

Installing a solar water heater makes financial sense. Heating water for your household can account for up to 15% your energy bill. With Trico incentives and federal and state tax credits, you can save up to 80% on the cost of the water heater, leading to a quick payback on your investment.

Terms & Conditions:

Up to $0.40/kWh for first year kWh savings as measured over conventional water heating. All solar water heating systems must be OG-300 rated by the National Solar Rating and Certification Corporation. For a complete list of OG-300 rated solar water heaters visit www.solar-ratings.org.

To qualify for a Trico UFI, the equipment must be installed and inspected within 6 months of the member’s reservation date.

The customer contribution to the cost of the solar water heating system must be at least 15 percent of the project cost before Trico incentives and all available Federal and State tax credits have been applied.

Trico Renewable Energy Rebates are subject to change and funding availability. Visit www.trico.coop for information on available rebates.

Performanced-Based Incentive Program Information

Trico offers Performance-Based Incentives (PBI) for solar and wind systems.

Performance based incentives are incentives that are paid based on the actual metered production of the system being installed. Production is tracked and incentives are paid out on a mutually agreed upon basis for a period up to 25 years. Projects will be awarded until the budgeted funding is exhausted.

To qualify for a Trico PBI, the equipment must be installed and inspected within 6-8 months (depending on the size of the system) from the project acceptance date.

Trico Renewable Energy Rebates are subject to change and funding availability. Visit www.trico.coop for information on available rebates.

Solar Panels/Photovoltaic Systems

Three hundred days of sunshine a year make today's reliable solar technology ideally suited to Arizona's climate. Trico rebates, along with the federal and state tax incentives, make using clean solar energy to power your business easy and affordable. Plus, powering your business with clean, reliable solar energy demonstrates your organization's commitment to environmental responsibility and can give it a competitive advantage.

Photovoltaic (PV) panels, typically installed on a residential or business rooftop are positioned to maximize exposure to the sun. The panels contain sunlight-absorbing semiconductors that convert sunlight into electrons, which flow as direct current (DC) electricity to an inverter. The inverter then transforms the DC electricity into AC electricity, which can be used to power your business. If your system produces more than you use, the excess flows to the Trico grid and your account is credited. Because your facility remains connected to the power grid, you’ll have electricity at night and on dark, rainy days.

Photovoltaic Systems (up to 10 kW):

Terms & Conditions:

$.068493 per kWh over 10 years

Photovoltaic Systems (larger than 10 kW up to 1 MW):

Terms & Conditions:

Projects are selected based on a competitive selection process. Projects will be selected on a quarterly basis, and incentives will be awarded until the budgeted funding for that selection period is exhausted. Projects not selected during a selection period are eligible to revise project parameters to be more competitive and resubmit for consideration during the next selection period.

Trico Renewable Energy Rebates are subject to change and funding availability. Visit www.trico.coop for information on available rebates.
